لا يملك المار في شارع الشيخ راشد الرئيسي في دبي ألا يلتفت الي مجموعة مباني علي الطراز الفرعوني، تبدأ بمبني كهرم سقارة المدرج، يقود الي مركز تجاري ومجمعاً سكنياً وأخر صحي،
While passing Sheikh Rashid main road in Dubai one cannot miss the collection of buildings with old Egyptian-style that makes up the city of Wafi, this unique group that includes a hotel, residential complex, shopping mall and Spa
ستأخذك عناصر تصميم مدينة وافي من أعمدة وجداريات ورموز وتماثيل فرعونية الي اجواء ماقبل الميلاد، رغم أن عمرها لا يتجاوز العشرين عاما، بل حتي لون الحوائط يحاكي الحجر الجيري لمعبد الكرنك وأهرامات الجيزة.
| That takes you with its columns, symbols and statues to the Pharaonic atmosphere, although its age does are merely thirty years, even the color of the walls mimics the limestone of Karnack Temple and the pyramids of Giza.

تمثالا رمسيس الثاني جوار فندق "رافلز" الذي استوحي المعماري Stirling تدرجه من هرم سقارة... في تصميم عصري مطعم بالكثير من الزجاج.
فعمارة "ما بعد الحداثة" الذي ينتمي
اليها المعماري تركز علي أن يكون للمبني شخصية تميزه عما حوله اضافة الي أداءه
لوظيفته بالطبع ، كما لا تمانع من اقتباس طرز الماضي في الواجهات والتصميم الداخلي، فاختار مفردات
فرعونية لما لها من ارتباط عالمي، لينتهي الي مجمعا ذا شخصية فريدة تثير فضول
المتسوقين في مدينة تعج بالمجمعات السكنية والتجارية.

At the
entrance to the city stand two statues of Ramses II. “James Frazer Stirling” The architect of Raffles Hotel has imitated the stepped
skeleton by Saqqara Pyramid... in a modern design inlaid with a lot of glass.
The
"postmodernism" architecture to which the architect belongs insists
that the building have a distinguished personality in its surrounding in
addition to its function. It does not also mind quoting past patterns in the
facades and interior design> Stirling chose the Pharaonic vocabulary due
to its global connection, to end up with a complex of unique personality
arouses the curiosity of shoppers in a city teeming with residential and
commercial complexes. |

وافي حارسا لمداخل المركز التجاري في تمثالين طبق الأصل للتمثال الخشبي الأصلي

Many Pharaonic
symbols are scattered in the vicinity of Al-Wafi. The statue of Queen Merit “the daughter
of Ramses and Nefertari” decorates the facades or stands on both sides of
traffic paths.
The statue
of “Anubis" that guards deaths’ treasures until their resurrection in ancient
Egypt, stands here guarding the
entrances of Wafi mall in two imitations
typical to the original statue in the Egyptian Museum

"Philae" Model
The temple of "Philae" which was dedicated to the worship Isis,
with columns of Lotus head carrying the classic Pharaonic
cornice inspired by palm fronds. |

Another example is the entrance
to the Spa, which is inspired by the
Luxor Temple with its obelisks and pharaohs statues on both sides - the
picture shows one obelisk as the second one
adorns Place de la Concorde in Paris.
However, the Luxor Ramses’ road is replaced in Wafi by
statues of Anubis, to match with those at the mall entrances

The Luxor Rams road was
replaced in Wafi with statues of Anubis, possibly in keeping with those at
the entrances to the mall

Lotus column Although the Egyptian temples knew 30 shapes
of columns in their different periods, the lotus columns with the
"open" crown are the most famous of all, that usually occupy the central areas
of the temple. The Column shape is an extension of the plant stem, which
evolved into the stone pillar, and then became as engraved as the walls.

In a recent
expansion, the Sofitel Hotel will open this year to add more than five
hundred keys to Wafi complex. The skeleton of the fifty story building as
designed by “Arkiteknik Intern.” is obviously influenced by the “Pharaohs
obelisk”
